Hilton has opened the latest US property under its growing Tapestry Collection brand.
The Slate Denver, Tapestry Collection by Hilton is located across the street from the Colorado Convention Centre, within a building formerly home to the Emily Griffith Opportunity School, which dates back to 1926.
Facilities include 251 rooms, a fitness centre, six meeting spaces, the all day dining Teachers’ Lounge Food and Drink for dishes such as crispy bison meatloaf bites, and a year-round outdoor patio.
The property’s design honours Emily Griffith, with school-themed restaurant and meeting rooms, to typewriter artwork and the building’s original school staircases.
Meanwhile the adjacent Emily’s Alley retail and dining block has been designed to host seasonal activities including music performances, artisan showcases and farmers’ markets.
Hilton launched the Tapestry Collection brand in 2017, and currently has nearly 90 properties either operating or under development, including the recently added Atocha Hotel Madrid and Hotel Camille Paris Gare de Lyon.
Commenting on the opening Kirby Kiner, general manager of The Slate Denver, said:
“We’re beyond thrilled to welcome our first guests and introduce downtown Denver to a revitalized piece of the city’s history.
“Since the project’s inception, we’ve worked hard to maintain the integrity of the hotel’s foundation to honour the legacy of the Emily Griffith Opportunity School and its vast impact on generations of Denver residents.
“In time for Teacher Appreciation Month, we, and our long time partner Hilton, couldn’t think of a better time to open our doors and invite guests into our re-invented schoolhouse.”
