IHG Hotels and Resorts is set to open its first resort under its luxury Regent Hotels and Resorts brand in Vietnam this spring.

Regent Phu Quoc will be located off the southwest coast of Vietnam, 15 minutes from Phu Quoc International airport. Around half of the island is a national park, with 314 sq km of lush tropical forest designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

The 176 suites and 126 villas with private infinity pools have been designed by Blink Design Group and draw inspiration from the island’s “tropical abundance and tranquil surrounding”, set against the backdrop of Long Beach. The indoor-outdoor layout of the villas and resort as a whole pay homage to Gian Nha, a style which includes small courtyards within a traditional Vietnamese house.

The resort’s architecture features a modern take on Vietnamese roofs, while an interpretation of the local wooden truss structural system (known as Bovi) has been incorporated into patterns on screens, carpets and accessories. Interiors also offer floor-to-ceiling glass windows with ocean views.

The resort offers six restaurant and bar venues which include Oku, a Franco-Japanese restaurant serving beef cuts and sushi at an Omakase counter; Rice Market, an all-day dining restaurant offering cuisine from southern Vietnam and north towards the border of China; Ocean Club, a Mediterranean-inspired beachfront venue with a live in-house DJ; Lobby Lounge, an all-day food and drink venue; Bar Jade, a speakeasy for artisanal spirits and custom cocktails mixed with fresh local herbs; and Fu Bar, a sky pool terrace and bar specialising in gin-based cocktails and local bites.

The property also includes a spa with a holistic wellness coach, a range of wellness programmes, and Biologique Recherche treatments. There is also a ‘Pedi:Mani:Cure’ salon by podiatrist Bastien Gonzalez, and a health centre with a gym, reset meditation studio and rooftop yoga pavilions.

Juan Losada, general manager at Regent Phu Quoc, commented:

“With the opening of Regent Phu Quoc, a truly visionary resort has been conceived which marries the calming, the imaginative and the extravagant. We look forward to setting new luxury benchmarks through exceptional Vietnamese hospitality and guest experiences which feel simultaneously luxurious and effortless.”

IHG already operates an Intercontinental property on the island’s Long Beach, and last year opened a Crowne Plaza on Bai Dai beach to the northwest of the island.

The hotel group acquired a majority stake in the Regent Hotels and Resorts brand in 2018, and opened its first property in Pudong, Shanghai in 2020. It recently partnered with China Duty Free Group to bring the brand to Hainan.

Regent Hotels and Resorts is set to open six properties in the next three to five years in Hong Kong, Jakarta, Bali and Kuala Lumpur.
